– Nevada's Source for Laser Treatment of Thick Fungus Nails –

  • THICK Fungus Toenails
    • THICK deformed toenails are very often a sign of a fungus infection inside the nail. THICK toenails offer a place for the fungus pathogens to reside and attack the nail bed.

      Toenail fungus is an infection where microorganisms infect and penetrate the nail and nail bed. The fungus toenail infection may attack the end of the nail or the cuticle.

      The toenail may become yellow in appearance and deformed. Discoloration and flaking of the toenail may occur. The nail may separate and lift from the nail bed making it easier for the nail fungus to spread.

      The fungus may start on one toe and gradually spread to all 10 nails.

  • Treatment of THICK Fungus Toenails
    • The thickness of the toenail will often make it difficult to treat the fungus infection. The fungus can reside within the nail and be protected. Medications, either oral or topical, will often have a hard time penetrating the toenail. (Oral medication has a very significant potential risks including liver damage.)

      Laser treatment allows light energy wavelength to penetrate the nail and nail bed, killing the fungus.

  • Nail Fungus
    • Nail fungus is caused by a microorganism that attacks and penetrates the toenails. The fungus infects the nail causing thickening and discoloration. The nail bed will often become infected leading to flaking and crumbling of the nails.

  • How did I get the fungus?
    • Fungus is caused by a microorganism. You may have developed a fungus infection first on the skin. You may have gotten the fungus from any of the following:

      • From a pedicure;
      • From a gym;
      • Excessive sweating in your shoes;
      • An unclean shower;
      • Getting the inside of your shoes wet; and/ or
      • From old, dirty shoes.

  • Is there pain with the procedure?
    • No anesthesia is needed. There usually is no discomfort. Some patients experience a slight warming sensation.

  • When will I see results?
    • Usually within 2 to 8 weeks there will be visible signs of a healthy nail growing. The time for clearing of the nail depends on how fast your nails grow. A new healthy nail will be seen growing out from the cuticle, pushing the fungus nail towards the end.

      For a healthy person it takes anywhere from 4 to 12 months to grow a toenail. *Your results may vary.

  • Will the fungus reoccur?
    • Prevention is crucial to prevent reoccurrence. Since we live in Las Vegas' hot climate the fungus is prevalent. It is important to maintain good foot hygiene to prevent reoccurrence. Just as brushing and flossing your teeth is important to prevent dental problems, proper foot hygiene is important to prevent recontamination.

      Tips on how to prevent a reoccurrence:

      • Always wear clean socks.
      • Alternate your shoes so you never wear the same pair two days in a row.
      • Buy your own pedicure tools to prevent cross contamination.
      • Prevent the fungus from living in your shoes. Use a foot powder or foot spray to kill fungus in your shoes weekly.
      • Sanitize your shoes. (www.sterishoe.com)
